i'm desperate.I'm running server 2003 with xp pro
sp2 pc's. I set up new pc and i'm having proble to access internet from
that one pc. All other pc's are running ok.I'm using dhcp on server and
when I look to network properties on xp pro pc, i see assigned ip address
+ dns + wins + gateway, it seemes like everything is ok. I can browse
local network, i can see shared folders + computers but when I try to go
online i get message "the page can not be displayed" When I tried to ping
yahoo.com I timed out. I can't go further than server. The server
translates the dns to all pc's and they are ok.I'm stuck and the old IT
guy doesn't wanna comunicate with me. The server is set up as PDC.Please
if you find some time left, could someone please help me.
Thanks
Pete

The server is running DHCP with the scope 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.0.254,exluding scope is 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.0.25 and 192.168.0.100 to 192.168.0.225. On my xp pro workstation I disabled DHCP and manualy put 192.168.0.39 with gateway 192.168.0.100,DNS 192.168.0.3 and I could browse internet but when I put 192.168.0.45 with the same gateway and DNS, I could not access the internet. The address 192.168.0.39 was unasigned to any pc. I don't understand what is happening, should I disable DHCP on server but what about the DNS,how will that work. Can you please help me with some instructions how to deal with this issue?Thank you.

Pete

I am going to be honest with you, I don't get to work with DHCP. I run some
software that requires static addresses.

Are the other computer that do work in the same scope as this one? Also,
check to see if a dns record is being created for the computer that doesn't
work.

>Yes Brandon, The other pc are in the same scope like this one.And yes DNS record is beeing created for the ip address. What do you think, if I disable DHCP and everything would be static IP. There shouldn't be any problem with DNS, it can still run, right. Ihave a Tele3 SonicWall installed also.Is there a scope too that I would need to set up for the ip addresse ? Thanks.

If I were you I would post this same question in the DNS forum.

You can change your network to run static ip but you would have to configure
each client manually, and yes once everything was set up properly you would
work fine. I don't recommend doing this, DHCP is always the way to go if
possible. Lets get back to the beginning, we need to see if your computer is
having problems with name resolution, or is the server having problems
sending info back to your client. Run tracert to from a working client and
the non working client to the www.yahooo.com, and then to the ip address
68.142.197.85. That ip is is Yahoo's ip address. Please post those results,
if the first one fails but not the second then we know its all in the dns.
If both fail, its and actual networking/ip problem.
