Internet LED flickering?

Not sure why I've only just noticed this. I see that the green LED icon on
my DSL-2740R wireless router is not permanently displayed, (as I'd expect
from a permanent broadband connection) but has bursts when it occasionally
flickers off and on. Is that normal please? Or an indication of some
problem?

I'm using BT/Yahoo Broadband.
