Hello - help!
I have 6 PC's hooked up to a hub, which is hooked up to a cable modem. I've
had Internet Gateway disabled on all the PC's as they access the Internet
thru the hub/modem. I've used the Network Wizard on all of them to identify
the network configuration as connecting thru a hub for Internet access. I've
also manually disabled Internet Gateway on all of them. Some of the PC's run
Norton Internet Security, others use the MS firewall.
And life was stable and good for years -- until I installed McAfee
anti-virus and firewall on one of the PC's.
Now I observe the following after booting up the PC with McAfee ......
1) Internet Gateway 'connects' on the PC with McAffee -- without being asked.
2) Although Internet Gateway on the other PC's is disabled, it 'connects'
on each of them -- without being asked.
3) The Linksys router's IP address and DNS addresses go to 0's.
Its the craziest and stupidest thing I've ever seen. But wait, there's more.
Ater observing the behavior above, if Internet Gateway is manually disabled
on any one of the PC's ......
1) Internet Gateway on each of the PC's 'disconnects' -- without being asked.
2) The Linksys router's IP address and DNS addresses go back to their
original/valid settings.
3 of the PC's sit next to one another. 'Disconnect' Internet Gateway on
one, and it 'disconnects' on all of them, and vice versa.
Why did things work fine for years before McAfee was installed? Why do my
PC's change their network behavior with a mind of their own? Why does the
Linksys router change its settings when the PC's spaz-out? Why won't my PC's
retain their desired network settings? How do I get my network back to
normal?
Is this a " feature " of Microsoft networking?
Is this a " feature " of McAfee products?
Thanks in advance for your help -- Dave
