internet download rate with usb wlan dongle

Hi
i am using a wlan kit, router+usb dongle +pcmcia dongle.
laptop with pcmcia very good. full adsl downloadrate.
But the pc with the usb wlan dongle only gets 22 kbit/sec,
which is of course not enough. OS is xp pro, athöon 1.9
512mb, usb 1.1. I heard there is a patch for usb wlan
dongles in combination with xp. I can not find any patches
here. Do I have to wait for xp sp2? Or does anybody knnow
a patch?
