Internet Control Noob question

Actually I set up a Win 2003 server between some XP clients and the ISP
with 2 ethernet cards: 1 that is connected to a switch (and to the
other LAN clients) and another one for the Internet.
I have started the DNS, WINS, VPN and DHCP services along with the
Active Directory (which I don't use much at this time).

The point is that I want to deny to some of my XP clients the Internet
access for a specified periode: let say from Monday to Saturday, from
8:00 to 12:00. The clients shouldn't have access to the Internet while
the LAN must remain active.

How can I set up that?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Abu Abdillah

With AD Users and Computers you can restrict logon hours to the domain, but
that is not what you want. You might be able to write a logon script which
would use netsh to remove the default gateway depending on the hour, day of
the week, etc. However, the only easy ways to accomplish what you want are
with a full featured firewall, proxy server, or Internet router.

Thanx for replying Doug.. but actually I don't feel the need to use the
domain to give my users Internet access and I set it up just in case it
would be required to manage those internet accesses.

As it is running now, users just use the DHCP, DNS and the VPN
(routing) to receive the Internet... I am trying to restrict the access
to Internet and there's NO WAY to get this info easily from the Web!!!

Any ideas?

but thanx again for your time.

Best Regards,
Abu Abdillah

Found it! ... partially...
Active Directory is not needed here
We need to set up filters in the Firewall (Routing module) in order to
stop some IPs from the internet...
Still to make the schedule to work...

Yes - some hardware firewalls have the capability to do what you want based
upon IP or MAC address. This is product specific. Since you have two
ethernet adapters in your server, I did not think you were using such
adevice.

If its any use - my old ADSL router had the ability ti deny internet
access for given network IP addresses between times you specify. It
was great to restrict the kids' access here so they settle down at
night!! (They're 15 btw!!) BT Voyager ADSL router

Trouble is I've had to use my netgear one again as I#ve muched up the
BT roouter when trying to set up port-forwarding!!! and I can't get
the bugger to reset!!! Ho hum!
