I am having a problem with one of my laptops. Basically it is sending data
packets out, but not allowing them to come back in. The one with the problem
is a Gateway M505 Pentium M. I was staying at a hotel with only dial-up and
at one time I could get it to connect to AOL 7.0 but could not access the
web. I now have wireless, and again, my newest laptop, a Toshiba Satellite
M45-S359 has no problems with dial-up nor wireless. I have used the Gateway
prior to connect to the internet via wireless and dial-up. I have changed
the settings of the Gateway to match the Toshiba with no luck. The items I
notice right away: the Toshiba has a Physical Address; IP Address; Subnet
Mask; Default Gateway; DHCP Server; Lease Obtained; Lease Expires; DNS
Servers and no WINS Server address -- again, the Toshiba works fine! the
Gateway has a Physical Address; IP Address; Subnet Mask, but no Default
Gateway; no DHCP Server; no Lease Obtained; no Lease Expres; no DNS Server;
and no WINS Server. I am running Windows XP Home Edition SP2 on both.

You say with dialup you can connect to aol but not the internet, but aol is
on the internet... so I'm not sure what you were trying to do that you
couldn't. I'm assuming you were trying to access a web page through aol,
while connected via the dialup. What happens, what kind of error? Regarding
the wireless, are you connecting at home or work. What kind of service do
you subscribe to that you are trying to access? What happens when you try to
connect to the wireless network?
