How would one configure an internet connection through another computer?
I have a PC running Windows 98se which needs to connect to the internet
through an XP machine using a cable modem.
They are networked and i told the internet wizard to connect to the internet
through the LAN, but it will not connect.
Do i need to setup some kind of proxy on the windows 98 machine to show it
the XP machine?

Thx in advance

Gary

Gary,
The best solution is to introduce a broadband router - I use a LinkSys
router which connects the LAN to the cable modem - works just fine.

Have a feeling that internet connection sharing only works with a 'direct'
connection between the comps (not 100% sure on this point)

You need to enable ICS on the network connection on the XP PC that hosts the
cable modem. Set the second network card in the XP and the card in the 98
box to receive IP automatically. When you enable ICS, make sure you enable
it for all users.

On the XP machine, go to help and support, and in the search box type 'ics'.
Choose enable internet connection on a network. Follow the instructions.
Ensure the 98 machine has TCP/IP set to pick up it address etc via DHCP.
