If I right click my Connection icon it always shows 2.2 Mbps speed. How do I
check the actual speed?

Which actual speed ? The speed you're connected at (see your router/modem
statistics) or the speed your typically useless ISP can deliver (run an online
speed test) ? These 2 are very much NOT the same thing in most cases.

Try this link to the BT test - it works with 'any' 11 number sequence that
begins with '0', and doesn't require all that faffing about logging on etc,
etc.

Thanks for your help
It appears that my speed is 1.8 Mbps which is slower than the 2.2 Mbps
shown. Of course I was promised up to 8Mbps via Orange!

The bbmax speed test is still more accurate.
