Internet Connection Speed

Just installed ADSL at home.
Using a multi-PC ADSL modem (Thomson SpeedTouch).
My laptop (IBM thinkpad under XP) has no issues and runs
download around 32 KB/sec.
My desktop (IBM aptiva A10 under W98SE) has a speed which
is no higher than my ISDN connection, which means around
7 KB/sec.
Is there anything I can or must do in W98SE to speed this
up?
