Hi guys
For the last 3 weeks or so, when i open IE or mozilla, when i first boot, it
stays on finding page for half a minute or so before the internet kicks in.
It has only started happening recently.
I have not downloaded any updates for xp for a while and have not changed
any network settings.
I can ping the DNS servers so i know its not them.
Also the little network icon thingy near the clock doesn't appear till IE
finds the page.
My current setup is
XP Pro
Cnet pro 200 network card using driver that came with xp
SAR 715+ adsl router

Any more info needed LMK

I presume that the router is switched on all the time, even when the
computer is turned off? If so, it sounds like the router is dropping the
internet connection when nothing is happening - and so has to re-connect
when your PC becomes active - which can take a little while.

Does the router have setup parameters such as "dial on demand" and/or
"inactivity timeout"? These need to be set correctly if the connection is to
be maintained continuously even when there is no activity.

Yeah the router is always on.
As i said before, it has only started happening recently.
I have made no changes to the router or my system.
I have no firewall on my pc either.
My router maintains the connection as i have exactly the same IP for weeks
and i am on dynamic ip.

Do you have zone alarm and have you updated it recently. I've started
getting similar problems since around about the time I installed their
latest update.

No firewall at all on my pc, not even the built in crap windows one.
I am on SP 1 not 2 as well.
I have realised the little network icon does appear in the corner but the
lights don't flash till the page is found
