I am relativly new to linux, so I dont know what to do.

Upon startup of my fedora core 3 box, It is not able to connect to the
internet (my speculation is problem with DNS).

If I go into system settings and then into the network panel and click
save, all the problems go away. However, this is a really slow box, so
the process takes ~ 3 minutes, and is majorly annoying when i need to
restart, check smething on internet, then restart again.

I've tried messing with network settings through GUIs, but havent
messed with conf files.

Manythanks in advanced!

You need to expand on "not able to connect" means. You don't need DNS
to connect, you do need DNS to resolve names to addresses. You need to
try some experiments that do not use DNS to see where the problem lies.

Probably because it's restarting a good chunk of the networking setup,
and something works now where it didn't work before.

You may have to do this. You should also run diagnostics on your
networking setup (both when it is working and when it isn't) so you can
figure out what is wrong:
- ifconfig
- route -n
- cat /etc/resolv.conf
- cat other config files - I'm not sure where FC3 puts them.
- ping -n to a nameserver, by IP address
- ping -n to an external webserver, by IP address
and if you have a firewall that drops pings
- telnet to port 80 on an external webserver, by IP address
