Hello.
Is it possible to make an ad hoc network when one PC is connected to
internet via its ethernet card? Should I use a bridge? Or is it better
to buy an AP?

The PC with the actual internet connection has two networks; one
for the internet and one for the wireless ad hoc network. You
can use Window's Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) to "bridge"
the two networks together.

This is what I use at home, and it works just fine.

Can't do that. If I use a BRIDGE the wireless ad hoc network won't
work because the IP needs to be automatic. If I use a simple ICS,
doesn't work: I can use my private network but not access internet
from client PC but only fron host PC (the one with the actual internet
cable connection.
Can you explain exactly how you have configured your PCs?

Unfortunately, I can't give you specifics. I simply allowed
the ICS Wizard to set up my PC's. I ran the Wizard on my
"main" PC, and it asked me which of the networks it found was
my internet connection, and which was my local network. It
also created a configuration diskette which I simply ran on
my other, local, PCs. BTW, your local ad-hoc network is
TCP/IP and not NetBEUI, right? My was originally set up as
NetBEUI, and I had to first change it to TCP/IP before running
the ICS Wizard.

And it worked. So, I went no deeper.

Let me add, that I have read that some ISP's block their
customers from running local home networks from their _one_
internet connections. Something about blocking sub-net
addressing???
