It is normal for the light to flicker periodically. More than likely, your
router is set up as a DHCP server and periodically your network adapter will
have renew its DHCP lease. If you have Windows XP installed, it may also be
checking for updates and even downloading them. Even Norton Antivirus does a
periodic check for updates via LiveUpdate if you have it configured to do so
and will also download updates in the background.
You can view your system log with the even viewer to see what activity has
occurred at any specific time. Ifyou're super paranoid, then I would
recommend getting a copy of Zone Alarm or something similar. Your router
should have a built in firewall which will prevent anyone from coming into
your private network.
