Internal/local DNS with a Netgear DG834PN?

I have the DG834PN which is providing DHCP services to my mixed network
of Windows and Linux boxes. It is also providing DNS services for the
Internet as it forwards to my ISPs' DNS servers. My internal machines
have the router address as a DNS server.

I would like to have internal DNS services i.e. for my Windows and Linux
boxes to be able to perform ping, etc. between themselves without each
machine maintaining a hosts file.

At the moment, I have one of the Linux boxes performing DNS duties for
my internal domain and it is set up to forward to the router.

As the Netgear router is always switched-on, I would like it to perform
these duties - unfortunately, I've not worked out how to do this or
whether this is possible.

Any ideas?

You are providing DNS services for the internet? The whole
thing?

Hm... not quite what I meant! The router answers internally made DNS
queries by forwarding them to the ISPs' name servers.

It isn't. You're doing it the right way with the setup you have.
