Is it using Broadcom chipset in WiFi adapter? This is a known problem with
Dell Truemobile (aka Broadcom). Solution is to disable XP's built-in
wireless management and use supplied wireless utility. Check out property
pages of wireless network connection - there should be a checkbox "Let
Windows manage my wireless connection". Try unchecking it.

Hope this helps,
Peter

I have a small wireless network with a Linksys WRT54g router. I have two
machines that connect fine with Linksys "b" cards, but one Gateway laptop with
built-in "g" wireless that has trouble staying connected. The signal strength
is fine according to the XP wireless utility, but the connection comes and goes.

I'm using 128-bit WEP, and I've limited the number of clients that can connect,
but that's about it for settings.

Any ideas?

I'll give it a try, but the WinXP wireless utility *is* the supplied utility --
the wireless is built-in, not an added-on adaptor.

Unfortunately the built in XP wireless configuration is crap maybe there are
updates that fix it now?

Well, there is an update:

http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;EN-US;826942

I'll give it a try, and see what happens.

My Dell also has built-in wireless, but there is additional utility
supplied. The one that displays signal strength in system tray etc. If your
wireless is designed to work under W2K (in addition to XP) then there must
be some sort of utility software supplied as W2K does not have wireless
support built in.
