Weird as it sounds, I have narrowed a problem down to the wireless
connection that leads to a SMTP server timeout when sending mail. Win XP
Pro sp1, Linksys BEFW11S4 v4, Intel 2100 3B builtin wireless in Acer
notebook.

Direct connect to Linksys does not have the problem.

With or without WEP - same results. Send a new HTML (Outlook Express or
Outlook 2003) just fine. Send and reply to plain text msgs fine. But reply
to HTML, in HTML, gets an error at the SMTP server. A trace shows lack of
'Msg accepted for delivery' msg back from SMTP server.

Hope that was clear... any ideas, please?

rick

Sorry about that.
You can change the MTU size with a tool like DrTCP ->
http://www.dslreports.com/drtcp

some informatin about MTU can be found here ->
http://www.dslreports.com/tweaks/MTU

I had the same problem with Lotus Notes e-mail and lowering the MTU to
1496 solved my issue.

Willem.

Interesting... I changed from 1492 to 1500 and my SMTP problem disappeared.
Tweak-thing on dslreports liked my change, too.

Go figure.

Thanks...

Oh, forgot. I only changed the MTU in the Linksys router, not my laptop.
Drtcp has spaces in the MTU field for the adapter. But, if it ain't broke
no more...

Have you blocked all ICMP packets?
If so, unblock, and it should all just work.
