Hi

I have a wireless network setup at my home using the netgear wireless
router (MR814 802.11b). I have DLink DWL 650+ wireless card and using
this I can easily access the wireless network at home through Windows
XP. However when I try accessing the wireless network using Redhat
Linux 9, I cannot do so. I have installed the ACX 100 drivers and the
wireless card works fine along with these drivers when I access the
school wireless network using Redhat 9(though the signal is flaky at
times). However I am unable to access the home wireless network. I
have make the necessary changes to the "start_net" script to the
access the home network but haven't had any success with it. Are
there any particular issues while accessing the netgear wirless
router?

I would appreciate if some one could help me out with this problem.

I wouldn't expect it to be a netgear router problem if you can access it
via Windows XP and the PC card. However, it could well be a mismatch
between the wireless setting on the router and the wireless setting RH is
applying to your card. To start with, you probably need to open up your
router, i.e., disable any access control, encryption, etc., and likewise
on your PC card settings in RH. If you can access the wireless net in
that state, then go back and apply appropriate security controls.

Maybe it's me, but I had a Netgear Access Point which seemed to be harder
to link to than the Linksys Wireless Router I just switched to; (my Linux
firewall box just died of old age, so I went with the easy solution for a
replacement).

I finally got the wireless card working with redhat.

I had to do the following to get it work

1) I had to setup the channel as 11 for the router
2) I then executed the "start_net" script provided by the acx100 and
3) Finally I executed the following command as root
"iwconfig wlan0 channel 11"

And everything worked. I hope this will help some one who is as needy as I was.
Anyway one final word, Linux rocks!!!
