Interesting TTL anyalysis require explanation

Hello,
In my organisation there are 3 server ip ranging 10.0.0.x1
,10.0.0.x2, 10.0.0.x3. If i ping to them ping takes ttl as 128. I
have my IP as 10.0.0.100. When i ping to x1 server i got ttl as 128
and if i ping to my adjecent pcs i got ttl as 64. why this is
happening? All are on same 10.0.0. network. Also then i make my PC as
Router with 2 NIC. and connect my neighbour pc with crossiver wire and
assign it as a 192.168.1.200 and allow my PC to Forward traffic. Then
i ping to 192.168.1.200 from 192.168.1.100(eth1 on my pc) and got ttl
as 64 and viceversa. I observe same analysis while pinging to our
proxy server from 192.168.1.200 to 10.0.0.x1 but with ttl 127.
All these observations are taken on RH 9 linux with proxy server
having windows 2000 server.
I require further TTL explanation please help me

What do /you/ mean by "ping takes ttl as 128"?

Are you explicitly setting the TTL, or is this the value you see in the
TTL field of the response, or what?

Can you be more specific please (preferably with some pasted example
results).
