How to interconnect two networks ?

I'd connect "something" on my switch to provide a WiFi interface vs. a
second "something" one floor above.
The second interface will be connected to a single computer among two on its
LAN port.
In a near future, I'll install a second switch in order to be able to
connect both remote computers.
They're running Win98SE and Win XP respectively

On the main network, there are three computers running Win98SE, one, the
gateway is connected to Internet via an USB ADSL modem. The connection is
shared through Win98SE's ICS.

What's the "something" I shall buy ?
If somebody can suggest specific equipment or brand, I'll apreciate.

Thanks

Sorry, I can't follow you here, do you want a 'bridge' between two switches,
or is the wireless card going to be plugged straight into the PC?

If it's the former, then you need to buy a wireless bridge. I'm afraid I
don't have much experience with these.

If it's the latter, then you just need to buy a wireless Access Point (AP)
which plugs into the switch with a straight-through ethernet cable. Setup
the access point with all the security what-nots you see around here (WEP,
disable SSID broadcast, MAC filtering; take your pick) and then your client
PC should work out of the box. You will have a choice between 802.11b and
802.11g standards when buying your access point & client cards. B is slower
but cheaper, and is fine if all you are doing is sharing the internet. G is
faster (maximum 54mbps) but more expensive, and only really necesary if you
are sharing files.

Any of the major brands for this are good, Netgear, Linksys etc... however,
make sure you are buying an Access Point and not a router!

HTH

No, I don't want any wireless cards, just LAN to Wifi adapters: Access
points half bridges or full bridges or a mix. I dunno !
I want to use only RJ45 at both ends. On one side, this is the switch's one;
On the opposite it will be either a single computer or another switch later
on.

What that's not clear for me is the differences between Access Points and
half or full bridges.
Then within the two modes, which one tu use: ad hoc or infrastructure?
I'd appreciate if anybody could answer.

Concerning the brand and the type questions, thanks for the information you
gave, I'll surf on the manufacturers' sites
It will probably be 802.11g because 802.11d is close to the end of its life.

Thanks
