Intel India's Development Center (IIDC) is working on the development
of the company's next-generation server processors.
Speaking at a press conference during the Intel Developer Forum here
today, Pat Gelsinger, Senior Vice President and General Manager,
Digital Enterprise Group, Intel, said that chipsets of the next
generation mobile platform and validation work on server processors
5300 and 7100 were being done in India.
The small form-factor notebook code-named Napa SFF and the upcoming new
mobile platform codenamed Santa Rosa and the Classmate PC are all being
developed at the company's Bangalore center.
The Classmate PC that is aimed at the student segment is slated for
launch later this year. Intel would also be launching the WiMax chip
globally in the next few days. This chip will support mobile WiMax
networks and is in talks with governments and service providers to roll
out WiMax services in India over the next six months.
"Intel will bring its first mobile WiMax compliant product to market.
This new chip bridges the worlds of fixed and mobile WiMax, helping
manufacturers build CPEs at increasingly attractive price points and
service providers to break ground on upgradeable networks," said
Mooly Eden, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Intel's
mobility group.
In his keynote address, Eden gave a sneak peek into the next-generation
mobility processor code-named Santa Rosa. This is expected to have a
rich feature-set that includes enhanced performance, an improved
graphics chipset, codenamed Crestline, an IEEE 802.11n Wi-Fi adapter,
codenamed Kedron, Intel's NAND flash-based platform accelerator,
which enables much more power savings. This new chip is expected to
ship in the first half of 2007.
