Hi

My brother have a labtop with a MINI PCI Netcard which is Intel 2100.
The OS is Win XP Pro with all availble updates.
My AP is D-Link 514.

I can connect to this site, and the link quality is 80 - 100% and the signal
strength is 50 - 80 %.
But my speed is switching constantly from 1 to 11 Mbit.

I myselt have a labtop with a Sparklan mini PCI card inside, and a D-Link
614+.
I have no problems.

Within the next few days I'll go to see him, and I'll try my labtop with his
AP, and vice versa.

But I would like to hear if someone else has experienced this !

Michael

I haven't came across that particular problem, however...

In addition to testing it with your laptop and nic, I would suggest
downloading Netstumbler to check for interference from a nearby wlan
or other RF source.

Obviously if your nic has the same connection problems as your
brothers there is an issue with the AP and not his NIC. Which could
mean interference, hardware or config problems with the AP. At that
point I would double check the config. Then call DLink for help.

If you connect fine with your NIC and laptop, then there is most
likely a problem with his NIC or laptop. Try putting your NIC in his
laptop to see if you get the same results. If you don't then there is
a problem with his NIC and not his laptop. Then call Dlink or the NIC
manufacturer and give them results of your tests and they should have
enough info to solve the problem.

Check http://support.micrsoft.com for help with laptop and XP issues.

I have now downloaded netstumbler.

What should I look for ?

On my WLAN I have a NOISE value of -92.
Is that good ?

My brother has a noise value of -65.
Is that better or worse ?
