My laptop is running XP Home SP2, but I'd like to upgrade it to Pro so that I can log
it into the domain at work.

The lazy part of me says try installing Pro over home, to save all the hassle of
re-installing everything, but I'm wondering whether I'll end up having more problems
by doing this.

Has anyone tried it, and was it successful?

Should be no problems as it is basically the same OS. Just remember to
run Windows Update after.

Though there may be an issue if your XP Pro is SP1 and your home is
running on XP2. I fell into the trap where it told me the OS was
older than the current one on the system, and I really couldn't be
arsed with finding all the Toshiba drivers etc.

I may try and get an OEM license with SP2 (the current spare license I
have isn't OEM so I don't think it works with OEM disks).

Andrew.

Be aware, it might replace your laptop drivers with the older built in
generic drivers.....

I upgraded my (Acer) laptop from XP Home to XP Pro. The only problem was
that I had to hunt down and install sound drivers (Via 3 in 1). Apart from
that it works fine.

So slipstream SP2 and burn a CD.

Thanks to everyone.

I'll give it a go and see what happens. Mines an Acer too so that is encouraging. If
the worst comes to the worst, I can always do a recovery from the original Acer
disks, and then try to convince the wife that I need a new laptop. I fancy one of
those new wide screen jobbies, hopefully running this new CORE chip that has just
appeared. :-)
