I currently have a Linksys ap wap11 v2.2 that I use in my house. I
want to install a pci wifi nic in my dad's desktop case, who's house
is two houses away. The distance between my ap and his desktop is
probably about 300' (as the crow flies), but obviously not line of
site. My question is, is a pci nic strong enough to receive the
signals from my ap? I have a laptop w/ a wifi pc card nic that will
not pick it up in their house. Thanks in advance!

Jeremy

Unless you have clear line of sight between two windows, and can place the
AP and receiving NIC near them - it won't work.
Also PCI cards antennae tend to be shielded by the computer and can't easily
be positioned, you be better off with USB adapter which can be placed in the
right spot - sometimes half an inch makes the difference.
Regards,
Martin

a) Buy another wap11 and set it to client mode in your dad's house
ands a cat5 to a NIC.
b) Or but a USB adapter.
Both let you find the best possision for receiveing the signal.
Other have even placed the wap11 outside in a waterproof box. I have
a SMC 2655 unit outside in a box for over a year now.
