if i stick a CD rom in my laptop on my wireless ad-hoc network, could i
install it to a directory on my desktop pc, which is on the ad-hoc network?

when i say install to a directory onto pc i mean also to run from the PC

in principle yes, if you share the CD as a network resource and the
other pc has read access to it.

Keep your eye on where the softweare is trying to create directories
etc, it should work but if its badly written it might do sometihng
odd. I have installed from CD in the days when I had a desktop without
a CD on a LAN.

It will see it just as another drive. The only problem you can have is copy
protection related but that is rare.

A way I use especially if disk may be required again is to copy to or make
an image on the PC say using Nero image writer and mounting with Daemon
tools for instance. Depends what it is.

One minor problem sometimes happens with badly written installers -
you may not be able to install correctly with a UNC but have to use a
mapped drive (Windoze).
