I am trying to install a Belkin Notebook network card on a
Dell laptop. during installation, it asks for the Windows
98 CD. I insert the CD and it says it cannot find
the 'vip.386'file. I have used 2 different CD's and
neither have this file... I have also went to the
microsoft knowledgebase.. and there is nothing on about
this file.

Thank you
Joy

The vip.386 file is in the Net7.cab file on both the Windows 98 and Windows
98 SE CDs. The cab files are located in the Win98 directory on the cd. The
vip.386 file should go in the C:\Windows\System folder. If you browse to the
Net7.cab file on the cd and click on the file it will show a list of all the
files in the cab. Right click on the vip.386 file and select extract and
then select the windows\system folder for the extract location.

Search your hard drive for several dozen files with names ending in the
letters CAB - if these are found, these are your Windows Setup files and you
can tell the installer to look there for the files it needs.
