Hi need some help please.
Have SBS2003 with 3 client PC's which up until yesterday connected via the
server to the internet.
Installed a USB ADSL Modem with SpeedTouch 330 software.
So my set up now is a USB ADSL modem, 2 nic’s one (Intel(R) PRO/100 Network
Connection) which is used to connect to a hub which connects to the client
PC’s and the other is not currently connected.( Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit
Ethernet)
Server can access internet and exchange server can pop and send email no
problems. Client PC's can access shared area on server, retrieve and send
email via Exchange Server.
Unfortunately client PC's will not access the internet through the server
now.
When I try accessing the internet from a client pc I get the standard page
with cannot find Server or DNS error.
I have run ConfigureEmail and Internet connection wizard. This created a
"Small business Broadband Connection" under Network Interfaces in Routing and
Remote Access and a "Small business Broadband Connection" under NAT/Basic
Firewall under IP Routing.
Broadband connection is on continuous but if I try Connecting via "Small
business Broadband Connection" under Network Interfaces, it fails. I am not
that familiar with SBS Server so am a little confused and at a loss what to
check. Have read through some of the articles here but cannot find anything
that works.
I have posted this on another user group and they are indicating that the
problem is the USB ADSL Modem and I wont be able to get it to work. I think
the problem is in Routing and Remote Access, in that the Server can get to
the internet and the client PC’s can access the Server etc. But they can’t
seem to get through the Server to the Internet. Am a bit light in this area,
when I first set up the Server with a standard internal modem everything
worked ok.
Any help would be appreciated.

DHCP scope options are as follows,
003 192.168.0.1

Your problem is that you don't have an IP address on your external NIC.

Fix that, and see how it works after that.

Thanks Matt I assume you mean default gateway on the Intel(R) PRO/100 Network
Connection?

How did your server connect to the Internet previously? Dialup? Through
the NIC? Does the server do NAT for the LAN machines?

You will probably need to set up a demand dial interface to act as your
"public" interface. Set it with a default route to the Internet. Then make
it the public interface in NAT. Now when the dd interface connects, the LAN
clients can share the connection. (You can set it to dial on demand, or
clear the box so that it doesn't and handle the connection from the server).

You will also need to modify DNS. For AD, the clients need to use the
local DNS. To resolve outside names, the local DNS need to bbe set to
forward to a public DNS service (such as your ISP).

Hi Bill,
Yes Server went out via a dial on demand through an internal modem.
Yes Server does do NAT.
I hads run ConfigureEmail and Internet connection wizard and it created In
Routing and Remote Access, a "Small business Dial Up Connection"
under Network Interfaces and NAT/Basic Firewall.
I ran the wizard after installing Broadband and got "Small business
Broadband Connection" under Network Interfaces and NAT/Basic Firewall.
I have tried configuring under Network Interfaces as a Dial Up and
Continuous connection but it fails to connect, saying it can't reach the
remote server.

Will try your suggestions.

Sorry Bill, but things are different when you're working with SBS.

Andy, don't muck around with anything like that, you'll break things

Run the Connect to internet wizard again...make sure the first part
(networking) is configured correctly.

Is your modem PPoE?

Thanks Matt will try the wizard again.
I am off site at the moment and wont be back until Friday, so cant do it
until then.
I believe the modem is PPoE as the DUN requires only a username and pwd. And
this connection is open all the time.

Many thanks again for the help.

Hi Matt,
I have just run the wizard again specifying a PPPoE add ISP configurations
as per Dial connection, under Local Network Connection I selected Server
Local Area Connection and it went off to configure.
It had a failure at the first step IP configuration and caused an error with
my Server Local Area Connection. I was able to overcome this by just clicking
on properties and clciking ok to close. Network reconnected OK. Under Routing
and Remote Access a "Small Business Broadband Connection" was created but has
a connection state of Unreachable, tried changing it from a demand to a
continous connection but always get an error saying unable to connect to the
Server. Tried disconnecting the ADSL connection and running the
aforementioned as a deamnd dial but still got error. Have I done something
incorrectly on the wizard. Its strange I had no problem when I set this up
originally with a bulk standard DUN.
