Installation mit Raid

Hallo

ich versuche auf einem System mit einem integrierten Raid-Controler Suse
Office Server (Kernel 2.4.7) zu installieren. Einen Treiber für den Raid
Controler habe ich vom Hersteller runtergeladen. Darauf befindet sich eine
Datei suse72boot.img Ich habe versucht diese Datei direkt auf eine
Diskette zu kopieren und auch sie mit rawrite auf die Diskette zu entpacken
und dann während der Installation den Hardwaretreiber zu installieren. Beide
male kam die Meldung Image nicht gefunden. Kann mir jemand helfen und mir
(Linux-Anfänger) sagen was ich falsch mache ?

The kernel looks a bit old (more than a bit, actually), and I seem to recall
that 2.4 kernels prior to 2.4.16 are broken in some way or another.

What kind of integrated controller is it? HPT37x? Promise?

Did you receive instructions with the driver diskette image? What happens if
you write the image (with rawrite) on the diskette and then try to open the
contents with e.g. windows? See any files then?

In most cases it is best to use drivers provided by the Linux kernel, not
those provided by the manufacturer (unless the manufacturer provides Open
Source drivers, which usually is not the case).

Hi

the controler is a highpoint HPT372, it´s onboard an Abit KD7-Raid MB.
In the instructions it says that you should extract the file to a disk,
using rawrite. When I want to install the driver during the boot procedure
the message "no image on the disk" comes up and the system detects 2 separat
HD´s but they are used as a raid 1 and I can´t format or partition neither
the first or second drive.
