install networking question

I've put mandrake linux on my home computer and am trying to get it to see
the other window boxes on my network. I have 4 windows 98 and one XP pro.
the 4 98's go into a net gear switch box and from there into a netgear
router.. the XP goes directly into the router, router is going to a cable
modem. The linux is on the router as well and is able to get out to the
cable modem okay but I seem to be unable to get it to ping the other boxes.
Each box is set up with it's own IP and it is also set in the net gear
router.

Any suggestions? Or more info needed?

You need to set up and run Samba on the Linux box. Go to the Samba
website for all the details you'll need:

http://us1.samba.org/samba/

I don't know whether Mandrake has a control module to configure Samba,
but an easy way to do it is with SWAT. There is information about using
SWAT on the Samba website.
