INN(NNTP-server) Messages disappearing after removing/re-adding a group

Does anyone have any experience with INN out here?

If I add a group with ctlinnd... everything works good... messages appearing
no problem.

The problem comes when I removen this group, and add it Again.

There are no messages anymore. Even if I run a newsfeed (with newsx) its
like the messages doesn;t download again because they are already known
somewhere...

is there anyone who can help ?

thanks

This is expected behavior. If you care about data, treat it with care.

There are services that will transfer your particular messages on-
demand, but a typical newsfeed is not one of them. It feeds you each
article once, and this is how it is rigged on the server side.

As it receives each article, it notes which peers it needs to send it
to. After it sends it to a peer, it removes it from the queue for that
peer. You may want to investigate other ways of getting news, such as
'suck', where the client asks for what it wants.

Typically, news is considered a low-priority service. If you lose all
your news, you just start over and in a week, you have a whole bunch
of news again. If you want to archive news, you use something other
than a normal news server that is designed for archiving.

That 'somewhere' is the inn message history database, which is used to
prevent sites with multiple feeds from getting (and propagating!)
duplicate copies of articles.

While it is possible to remove entries from the history database, it's
a somewhat tedious task, requiring some digging into the database
file format.

It's a lot easier to just let the group be repopulated with new articles.
