I know, more or less, how to set up an home or small office wireless/wired
lan, what I would like to learn is how to set up a secure and wider wlan.
I mean, secure access, how to give access only to a specified group of
persons, how to avoid pirates to hack the wlan etc etc
Can someone give me some link where to study the problem?

thanks

Giovanni,

We would all like to do these things, but you have to take them one at a
time. Many of the tasks you are asking about will vary with the equipment
you use. If you are more specific about equipment types and ask single
questions, you will get very good answers right here.

Well, Ray, let's start from here:
I know that all of the stuff we buy to wire our houses are pretty like toys,
in more critical environment you can't use low end stuff; so, what do the
high end stuff differs from low end?
Also, let's start with en exemple: I want to set up a wide network, let's
say I have a fast line that I want to share within several people, how do I
decide how much bandwidth to assign to everyone without ending saturating my
input line? Do I need a server with a range of ip addresses to assign or can
it be done by a router/gateway?

Thanks

bye

Giovanni,

There are lots of network guys more qualified than I who can give you
good suggestions on this newsgroup,but...

1. If you want better than home-use functionality, you're going to
have to spend more money for more sophisticated routers and/or access
points.
2. If you expect to service a large numbers of users, you will need
better connectivity than low-tier DSL.

On the other hand, if you are only talking about a HotSpot access for
a small group of casual users, WAP11 access points from a router with
DSL connectivity should be quite adequate.

Dear ray,
I have my own wired/wireless network running, I also setup a few more for my
customers/friends but all in small environments; I need to know what
hardware do I need and what knowledge do I need to setup a wider environment
without caring about costs and xDSL or whatever else. I need the theory now

thanks
