I have a Linksys WAP54G access point. I was having network connection
problems (later found to be due to a faulty switch elsewhere in the system)
and followed the Linksys directions to upgrade my firmware to v.2.06. Once
I did this I could no longer communicate with the AP (not via wired
connection, not with the utility, not wirelessly, etc etc) No device on the
system could even SEE the AP. Last week, after hours of struggle, gave it
up for dead.

Last night I began searching ONE MORE TIME for some remedy. While Google
searching through newsgroup posts I came across a thread from
alt.internet.wireless talking about this very subject and a post from
someone named Diederik who described special settings he used to connect a
laptop with a wireless NIC to a "dead" WAP54G. I tried what he described
and IT WORKED!! I was able to make the connection, read the settings,
"downgrade" the firmware back to 1.08 and reset it and now the AP works
perfectly.

First, thanks to alt.internet.wireless. Second, a little additional
information. The thread I read theorized that the faulty firmware issue is
due to not being appropriate for EU models. That might be so, but my WAP54G
was bought, installed and used in America and it had the SAME problem and
SAME solution. FYI.

Thanks again to all who contribute to this great resource.

THIS IS WHAT WORKED FOR ME (don't know if it's special, just know it worked)
Download the older firmware version and save it on a wireless computer.
- Reset your WAP.
- Change the TCP setting of the wireless computer like this:
IP=192.168.1.x, subnet: 255.255.255.0, router: empty
- Connect wireless to your WAP, the network is linksys, no password needed.
- Open your browser and connect to your WAP (192.168.1.245)
- Update your firmware to the older version
- Reset

Your post just fixed my problem with my WAP54G. The WAP54G could be
found by the wireless cards but all connectivity through the wired
connection stopped working. I couldn't connect from the cards to the
router on the other side or from any of the hardwired devices to the
WAP54G. (I had done a 2.06 upgrade a while back).

I did exactly as you suggested and now I have connectivity again
1. reset the hub
2. set the address on my wireless card to 192.168.1.xx
3. connect to the hub over the wireless connection to 192.168.1.245
4. "upgrade" the firware from 2.06 to 1.08 (that I had sitting around)
5. Presto! connectivity was restored.
6. Reset the ip address of the wireless card to use DHCP and see that a
new IP address was fetched via the WAP.

You can upgrade to version 2.07 after upgrading to version 1.09.
