They seem to be into cryptic comments ..... So in a bit more detail (I
think).

Telewest cable modems are set to register your PC MAC address - if you try
and add more hardware to the cable modem, some people get disconnects after
a short while as the Telewest system senses the new unregistered MAC address
of the new hardware. Some people don't for some reason - probably a weakness
in the Telewest system.

So once you plug your wireless router (I assume its a router) into the cable
modem, it should get its address from the cable modem and pass it wirelessly
to the laptop.

In some cases, you need to find out your originally connected PC MAC address
and set your linksys router to 'spoof' that MAC address, so Telewest think
its the same box. Once that¹s done, the laptop, and anything else wirelessly
connected will appear to the internet as if they are the original PC.

Their comments were because Telewest make life more difficult than a
standard ADSL service, due to the MAC address limitation.
