Increase range of Wi-Fi

I am moving to a new condo next month that provides free wireless
internet. However, I would like to do something to boost the quality
of the signal I am getting in my home. On the 5 point scale, I am
getting 3 in my new home but I watch a lot of stuff on the internet,
and would like to see how I can boost it further.

Any devices that might help or thoughts on how I can do this?

If you'll be connecting in a fixed place (normally a desktop) you could
build a directional antena, like the canntena, or buy one. Then find out
the direction of you AP and point the antena that way.
