I don't get this. I sometimes get computers not correctly registered on DNS..

I run DNS on my Windows 2003 R2 Domain Controller.
I think it's default settings.

Now, I installed a computer called Comp1 with Windows XP using our XP image.
I then installed it with Windows Vista Enterprise.

Now when I ping Comp1 from another computer, it tries to connect to another IP than what Comp1 uses.

How do I get rid of this problem?

I've set the Dynamic updates to Secure only.
I've enabled Aging/Scavenging to 3 days/ 7 days

Hello HAL07,

If you have multiple ip addresses for one computername in the DNS zones (forward/reverse)
configure either scavenging on the DNS server or zone properties or use your
DHCP server.

Aging and Sacvenging:

DHCP:

If the other computer is resolving the name "comp1" to the wrong ip then
there must be a record in your dns server with that name/ip combination. Find
it and delete it. Then on "comp1" run ipconfig /registerdns to re-register
the computer in DNS.
Hope that helps.
