Incoming slower than outgoing?

Here's an odd one - checking a friends connection for them - They
are out in the sticks and SamKnows & Entanet suggests a line speed of
1.5Mb/sec. No ADSL2+ avalable at the exchange... (4.5Km straight line
distance according to SK)

I've not been on-site so I don't know what their wiring is like yet, but
the chap who installed (another friend) it is unually competent enough.

Despite this, their connection is very poor - incoming is a mere
160,000bps, however, outgoung is 832,000bps! I didn't know incoming would
go that slow! (Yes 160Kb/sec)

Stats off their router (Draytek 2820):

Mode State Up Speed Down Speed SNR Margin Loop Att.
G.DMT SHOWTIME 832000 160000 22 58

Anyone seen anything as bad as this before? Going to ask Enta to do a
line check, but who knows...

Cheers,

Gordon

I have occasionally seen my router slip into mad mode, but that is weird!

22db SNR is very high. Looks like there is some mis configuration somewhere.

Outgoing can go down to anything it wants, depending on what cahnnels it
can find, that work.

Or in some case, none at all.

Just for an update - friends gone on-site today and fitted an I plate
and new faceplate filter (why he didn't do this in the first place,
knowing it was marginal is beyond me, however) ...

Router now shows:

Mode State Up Speed Down Speed SNR Margin Loop Att.
G.DMT SHOWTIME 832000 3072000 5 57

So 3Mb/sec incoming. Now to wait for the BRAS profile to reset and we'll
all be happy...

Cheers,

Gordon

How did he do that? Aren't they mutually exclusive in the one NTE5A
master socket? At least, he couldn't use the ADSLnation XTE2005
faceplate filter or similar.

With a faceplate filter fitted to the NTE5, there is a new ring circuit
*after* the filter components so putting a series choke before "pin 3"
of the phone plug input of the faceplate filter, which is what the I-
Plate does, has no effect since this pin 3 doesn't connect to anything
when using a faceplate filer.

Doesn't sound too good to me.
