Implementing VPN

I have a LAN with several computers going to Intenet through a
gateway. This gateway is a Linux box (Fedora Core 3) and it is a
firewall and implements NAT at the same time. Now I have a laptop and
I would like to set up a VPN to make the laptop able to access the LAN
private resources, and then I would like the laptop to go out tp the
Internet through the LAN gateway, is this possible (accessing the LAN
with a VPN and then go to the Internet through NAT, and everything is
the same box)?

Is the first time I have to deal with a VPN, so I basically would like
to have some advise about what possible implementations exist over
Linux ?

Thanks !

Yes, what you want it's possible.
If the client in the laptop it's XP then you probably need pptpclient
or OpenVPN on both sides. If it's Linux you can choose between OpenVPN
(very easy to install) or OpenS/WAN (complicated, but can work with a
great variety of devices), on both sides.
