IMAP: data transfer

I want to transfer email data from one domain (server A) to another domain
(server B), ie inbox, sent, spam folders.

In MS Oulook I set up 2 IMAP accounts; one points to server A, another
server B.

I then drag, say the content of inbox (on A), to the inbox on server B.

I must say I do not know much about this protocol.

Qestion:

Does the data go directly from server A to server B ? Or the data comes to
the pc running MS Outlook and then get transferred to server B ?

Thanks.

The latter. The message is downloaded from server A by the client and
then uploaded to server B.

If you are going to do a lot of such transfers, then it is possible to
use migration utilities to move over the emails - look for some
information at the www.dovecot.org site. And if the two servers are
storing the emails in the same format (such as maildir) then it may be
possible just to directly copy the files from one server to the other.
