A standard telephone socket will be fitted adjacent to the BT one - but that
is not how your modem will connect. There will be a separate cable, the
same sort of size as a TV coax, that will go to a new cable modem. To share
this connection, you will need a new router *in addition to* your new cable
modem.

You will have the choice of connecting using USB or Ethernet. Usual advice
is avoid USB!

The installers will not be able to offer any technical assistance, but an
installation CD is supplied which works pretty well. If you have problems,
make sure you ring the support number for Broadband, not the dial-up one.
I've found them to be clued up, they diagnosed a failing router on my
system inside five minutes.

The installers are usually sub-contractors on a price; they just want to
throw it in and go. If you are looking for a neater way of running the
cable you might have to haggle with them.. If they need to get from front
to back of the house they will often throw the cable over the roof! This
looks terrible. They are not allowed to go in the loft for "safety
reasons". My stepson convinced to let him pull the cable through the loft
himself however.

Let the group know how you get on.

Chris.

you would need a "broadband router" with an ethernet input rather than
an inbuilt ADSL modem. That would connect to the cable modem / set-top
box.

sure, usually there are pretty similar models of "broadband router" or
"gateway" and "ADSL modem router" - people sometimes buy the wrong
one.

you have a D-Link DSL-G604T
DI-xxxx don't have a modem and are intended for cable.

DI-624+ looks similar to what you have now but the cable version.

Nah, I buy loads of bulk packages of things and then sell what I don't
want on eBay. Just note down that the dongle isn't in the package but
mention that everything else is in the pack just like a dongleless
router package. Or, don't supply the box and don't mention the fact
that there was a dongle.

I've recently subscribed to NTL's package of telephone, TV and 1MB
broadband for £30 a month. I really wanted to switch over to digital,
and so, i thought "why not get the whole lot for £30 after all, I'm
paying at the moment £15.99 for broadband from Tiscali, and on Friends
and family with free local calls weekday and weekends from BT at a rate
of £14.99 a month. So, I get the TV package thrown in for nowt!
Now, the problem is this:I share my broadband with my daughter, using a
D-Link DSL-G604T modem/router, which of course connects to the phone
line via splitters, using a RJ11 cable. If i move to NTL, which is
cable, do I lose the modem/router, and so lose the option of sharing?
Will moving to NTL make the D-link modem/router redundant? How can i
share the broadband connection using cable, or will NTL fit a standard
telephone point, at my flat, so keeping the D-link modem/router? I've
yet to have the team from NTL to review the order, maybe, I should ask
them the question!

Hummm, looks good, and the price isn't to bad either!I suppose, I could
sell my old modem/router, and keep the dongle, However, it came boxed
with the dongle, so I suppose I have to sell them both as a package! I
bought it 2 months ago, for £65... The one you're recommending from
technology temple ( http://tinyurl.com/8zjub) is £46.35
