IGP 1.0 ?

A friends PC has this IGP icon, as well as his LAN icon showing in his
system tray:-

Is it necessary, is it a security risk, and how would one get rid of it.

I suspect that it's there because he has Upnp switched on in his router,
because he has one or more applications installed, that need to
automatically open ports ?
