The IEEE 802.1x authentication is for use primarily with WPA encryption.
Most home users simply use WEP, so the situation is that the computers
connect, then fail authentication because there's nothing to authenticate
with since WEP is running - and then disconnect. Then the LAN is
"discovered" again, connects for a couple minutes followed by a failure of
authentication again. It is a vicious cycle.
