IEEE 802.1X Protocol

the windows xp upgrade advisor on win 98 says that IEEE
802.1X is incompatible with XP( maybe XP is incompatible
with 802.1x!!), and to get XP-compatible software from
MDC, yet other xp web pages clearly indicate support

It probably means that your client-side software is incompatible with XP,
not the protocol itself. Makes sense, because you are doing a major change
in the kernel. Go out to the OEM and download/purchase the software needed
for XP.
