Help! My Win98 machine is no longer allowing IE6 to browse the internet. I
looked at the Connection setting and everything there seems to be okay. I
know TCP/IP is working properly because I can ping an outside IP address, so
DNS is working. However any attempt to use socket services - ftp, telnet,
http, is not working. Ftp reports "socket 10047" error. IE6 just says
"Page cannot be displayed!".

Thanks in advance for your help.

Scan your system for unwanted guests - parasites, adware, spyware. Get a
copy of AdAware from http://www.lavasoftusa.com/, install it, update it, run
it. If it finds unwanted guests clean them off, restart the system, scan
again. Repeat as necessary until the system is clean.
