Does anyone know how to identify if a machine is a laptop or a desktop using
the registry?

PC Card (PCMCIA) controller distinguish portable systems.
HKLM\System\CCS\Enum\Pcmcia and HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Pcmcia\Enum are the
keys.
