How can I identify the addresses of all machines, including routers, on the
network ?

I prefer http://www.softperfect.com/products/networkscanner/ - it only
displays IP addresses for computers that respond, and it shows shares that
each computer offers.

The Famatech one can hide dead addresses too. You can open an explorer
window on any machine that returns NetBIOS info to see its shares. It
doesn't check for SNMP, but it will run remote shutdown or send a WOL
magic packet, which I find more useful.

I thought the WOL only works on a MAC address not an IP? Happy if this
is not the case as this is exactly what I need for a PC on my local
network!

cheers,
Len

The scanner shows the MAC address of each node that responds. You can
save scan results and reload them so you have the MAC address of
previously scanned machines even if they're currently offline. For some
reason it only seems to save the MAC address of nodes that have NetBIOS
info, although the restored list doesn't display NetBIOS info until you
re-scan (you can put the NetBIOS name in the comment field so you don't
have to remember IPs). If you're running DHCP on your LAN I guess
you'll have to re-scan and re-save when the allocated IP addresses
change, but I don't use it myself.
