ICS to share connection with Linux box (Can it be done?)

Hi there. Bit of a noob question here so this may sound very naive...

I have a home network using a Linksys wireless router. It's a flat
192.168.1.x network with WAN connection to the Net via my ISP. All hosts are
wireless and have static IP addresses.

One of these computers is running an eval version of Windows Server 2003
that I have for testing purposes. It has a wireless NIC and a wired NIC
installed.

I also have a Linux box for which I simply cannot get a WNIC of any kind to
work. So I thought maybe I could connect the Linux box to my W2K3 server via
some cat-5 cable and, using ICS, voila. I would be able to browse with the
Linux box through the server's connection.

So I went into this blindly. Enabled Firewall/ICS on the server, but I do
not see any ICS stuff in the properties of the NIC. Just a button for
firewall. So I cannot figure out how, if at all, I can share out the
connection.

The server does have AD installed and IIS, but aside from that it is pretty
vanilla.

Thanks for any guidance here.

JM

You can't run ICS on a domain controller. You could run RRAS/NAT, but that
is not recommended on a DC either. It causes all sorts of problems with name
resolution and browsing.

You could try using ICS on a workstation instead of on the server.

Kinda thought a DC wouldn't allow for ICS. Thanks.

I could go the workstation route, but I don't have an extra box lying around
for that purpose. I think I'm better off tackling the wireless card on my
Linux box.

Thanks again,
JM
