ICS with IE proxy set not working?

Hi,
I am trying to help someone get a 1 way satellite link working with ICS, and
getting stuck:

Basically, the 1 way sat uses a modem dialup for the uplink side. I can
share the dialup OK using ICS and all works well, the client PC's can access
the net through this connection.
But as soon as I activate the satellite side of it, nothing works- can't
even access the internet from the "server" (winME) machine. I think this is
becuase the sat software reconfigures the computer to access everything
through a proxy- it adds a load of proxy settings to Internet Explorer,
telling it to go via another machine on Port 8080 (this works before ICS is
activated).

Now, Im not much of an expert on ME ICS (I use 2000 Server RRAS) so is it
simply that ICS Cannot cope with port 8080? And if so, is there any way to
"tell it" that this is an allowed port for it to work with?

Most satellite Internet services do not support ICS. Have you checked with
yours to see if they do?

Not sure off the top of my head, its not mine! But I will ask the people in
question to check... Is it a case of they dont support it on a "contractual"
basis, or do you mean its simply imposible to get working?

Usually as in "It's simply impossible". ICS cannot handle an Internet
connection with separate uplink (telephone) and downlink (satellite)
channels.

I have a customer with Sprint wireless and the dial-up external modem plugs
into the Satellite modem which then plugs into the PC via Ethernet.

Since the satellite modem controls the dial-up modem, Windows has no idea it
exists. As a result, Windows treats it like any other cable modem...

This persons configuration may vary, however.

Indeed- that would present just one interface; the one my friends have is as
Richard described in that its a "normal" dialup connection and the pc uses a
proxy to know to route back down the sat.

Anyone know if Windows 2000 Server RRAS or similar could cope with this
scenario and work?
