IBM Home Network Question - Simple really...

Pretty simple question for all you techies - thanks for helping...

I have two 'puters - One desktop (AMD MSI MB 2400 AMD 1 gig/240HD/Win XP
PRo/onboard LAN) and laptop (IBM R40 1.3 M/512/60 HD/xp pro/ 813.b wireless
built-in) and just bought a Netgear DLS wireless router-

Im just trying to get the two to talk to one another - printer sharing/file
sharing and such -

When I set up a "new network" via XP network wizard - it shuts down the
wireless card and hence cant find a network.....

Comments or Points to any helpful site to set this very simple network up
would be appreciated
