[HW] Best professional ADSL modem around?

Hello chaps

Totally frustrated by the continuous hangings of my router (Netgear
DG814) under serious P2P pressure, I have decided tu upgrade my hardware.

The price is not an issue, I want the best ADSL modem around, the
sturdiest; one that will not overheat and will withstand the pressure of
continuous and furious access from about 5 machines, and will never let
me down again...

So far I have tried my otherwise trustworth Netgear DG814, and a
friend's Orego modem/router, which actually gave even worse results.

The 4-ports hub is absolutely not essential, as I have a gigabit lan
setup already up and running... What I need is a rock-steady modem to
keep my line up without any more problems.

Hope to solve my problem :-)

T.

Hiya,
Have been using the Thomson Speedtouch 530 for some time now. 3 ports,
one for adsl feed, one for USB and one for 10/100 network. Built-in DHCP
if needed, web-based admin and is actually v good (I'm a linux admin and
like its GUI config!!)

Hasn't stuttered once, and has an uptime of about 3/4 months now with a
lotta up/down bandwidth used. If it does find a problem, auto-restarts
and gets itself running v quickly too. Not a complaint on this little
runner.

ttfn.
Andy.

Sounds saucy! Have you tried it with heavy P2P usage? My router dies
expecially when programs like emule or mlmac run with loads of
connections...

If this Thomson can survive that, well mate, u made my day :-)

My cheapo ebuyer gets battered by p2p and hasn`t stuttered once...

I think there`s only Tiny with any left now (calls himself lioncom) at
about £40 more than I paid for mine.

I can vouch for the 510v4, which works a treat for me with the likes of
Overnet/edoney.

It's just the one that I got bundled with my ADSL (Eclipse), and i've
been 100% impressed with it. I've done a fair bit of P2P, but also I
transfer several gigs per week as a remote backup of a server, and not a
problem there. Does all the usual static port forwarding, etc, etc.
Loads of features and a really good site at Thomson aswell for updates,
firmware, support, etc.

I'd recommend it m8, give it a shot!!

Andy.

This one... Otherwise known as the AR41

http://www.lioncom.co.uk/apro4.htm

He`s trying to charge £69.59+VAT+P&P

I paid £41.13 excl. VAT with free P&P at the time

www.ebuyer.co.uk have a new model, the ASR-8400 at £32.98+VAT

With any luck, this link will take you straight to it - i`ve heard
reports from others that bittorrent (a p2p style app) works quite happily
with it.
