Hi,
We run file services on a Windows 2003 server. Remote users connect to the
site using Cisco VPN/Pix over dial-up link. Browsing the directory structure
is very slow. We used to store files on a Network Access Storage device
accessible through HTTP. Even though file retrieval was slow, remote users
could at least browse directory structure OK. I assume I can web share the
directory structure on Windows 2003 and make it accessible through HTTP and
still enforce permissions but was not able to find white papers or documents
on Technet about that. BTW, I'd like to avoind using FTP. Would you have
pointers to web sharing or recommendations to improve browsing using regular
file services in this context? Thanks for your input. C

You just set the root folder (home directory) you want the site to use in
IIS. If it already uses the one you want and you want to add more, then
just create a Virtual Folder and point the VF's "home directory" where you
want it to be. There realy isn't anything special to it. The NTFS
permissions will control who has access.

BTW - You will have to enable "directory browsing" at the site level or the
Virtual Folder level so it will list the files that are there.
