I have a brand new hp pavillion 7000 with an Integrated
Broadcom 54g MaxPerformance 802.11g wireless card Running
on WIndows XP MEdia Center. I have installed the nm700
software on the notebook but when My computer will not
recognize any networks in my area. SO i went in and
manually added it using the right name and WEP key and i
have both on the same channel 6. I don't know what to do
to get this to access my network. I have a desktop
attched to it using a cat5 cable and its fine and on the
network but the notbook will not recognize it. Can some
one please give me a walk through of how to get this to
work, i have never used a wireless network before.

Are you running a software firewall on the computer you cannot access?
Programs like ZoneAlarm and some of the Symantec (Norton) programs will
block access unless configured to allow LAN traffic. You may also want to

My new laptop will not recognize any networks in the area
so it will not connec tot he wireless router. My desktop
is connected though a wired ethernet cable and works
fine. My laptop is runing Norton, will that keep it from
being able to see a network? I have done everything that
is in the article that you sent me to read. I have
installed the software on both machine and have a working
network with my desktop and the router, I just cannot get
my laptop to recognize the network no matter what i do.

Look in Network Connections and see if any devices are noted as "bridged."
That could cause confusion as to which device to use if the laptop has a
built-in modem for dial-up, an Ethernet connector and a wireless device. Is
the wireless device enabled? Have you set up the proper channel, SSID and
Workgroup?

Ther are no bridged connections. I have the channel set
to 6 on both the router and the laptop. I have the WEP
disabled on both and i have the SSID named on both.

Then I suggest you run through the troubleshooting section in the User's
Guide to see what you can find. Is your laptop the same Workgroup as the
LAN?
